General Subcutaneous Injection Process Clean the injection area with an alcohol swab and allow to dry completely Draw the appropriate dose into an insulin syringe (29-31 gauge, 0.5 inch needle) Pinch a fold of skin and subcutaneous tissue between thumb and forefinger Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle into the pinched skin fold Release the skin fold and inject slowly over 5-10 seconds Withdraw needle and apply gentle pressure with a cotton ball if needed Do not rub or massage the injection site Wrist-Specific Injection Sites Local injection near the injury delivers higher peptide concentrations to target tissue compared to distant systemic injection
