Rare and exquisite antique Chinese painted fan with carved ivory stick handle. puppet It is printed by handThis is a beautiful fan with great detail. Cantonese and dating from around mid 19th century. Decorated with beautiful court scenes in the "1000 Faces" pattern. The faces are made from ivory (or possibly ox bone) which has been applied to the paper and then painted. This fan has a particularly lovely border showing stylised fish. We haven't opened up the frame but it's probably that the fan is also painted on the reverse. Intricately and finely carved
