Above it, the airy Shamrock Traverse takes the walker to one of the finest rock amphitheatres in the Lake District, and the place of many of its earliest recorded rock climbs, featuring famous climbers such as the Abraham Brothers of Keswick, and John Atkinson, a local shepherd and cooper, who made the first recorded ascent of Pillar Rock on July 9th 1826.
