It is found that the the thyroid gland, which exhibits the highest selenium concentration per unit of tissue, remarkably retains selenium and continues to express selenoproteins even in the face of severe selenium deficiency, reflecting the distinctiveness of the human thyroid and highlights the critical importance of selenium for its proper functioning and health (8688)
