In our experience, BAP1 -inactivated melanocytomas are encountered less frequently than deep penetrating (beta-catenin activated) melanocytomas, and this likely reflects both the concerning clinical appearance of deep penetrating (beta-catenin activated) melanocytomas prompting biopsy, as well as the fact that beta-catenin activated melanocytomas typically harbor a single additional activating mutation (CTNNB1 mutation) instead of the two additional alterations (mutation of BAP1 followed by loss of the wild-type allele) in BAP1 -inactivated melanocytomas and thus may be more prevalent
