The building was used as a military museum by the Nazi Party during the Third Reich in Germany, but it was originally constructed as a medieval tower defense gate for the city. The Cologne Cathedral 10 Pfennig stamp on the back of the card was issued by the Allied Armies of Occupation controlling the Deutsche Post in 1948 following WWII.
